The final meeting aimed to overview the results of the DACO project and to present pilot projects by the three participating cities: Taraz, Novogrudok and Somoniyon. The Meeting was a good opportunity to discuss the final report of the project and to clear matters from city representatives.
The Meeting has started with welcome statements from the representatives of the Province of Chieti, including Enrico Di Giuseppantonio, President of the Province. Apart from the three cities, ALESA, Energy Charter Secretariat and ELENA representatives made their presentations. Rob De Lobel, from DG Development and Cooperation of the European Commission moderated the session of open discussion and questions.
With regard to Novogrudok (Belarus), there is a plan to make Novogrudok a green energy city by 2020. DACO was the first project for this municipality but definitely not the last. In Somoniyon (Tajikistan), thanks to DACO, the number of children going to the kindergarten which was renovated in the framework of the pilot project increased considerably. Taraz (Kazakhstan) representative presented the project of renovating outdoor public lightning of 20 streets, resulting in 60-65% of energy savings.
But the project benefits not only local partners, the DACO and the Covenant of Mayors are important activities for the Province of Chieti as in time of economic crisis it provided about 300 jobs.
